India Post GDS 1st Merit List 2026 Out – How to Check Your Result & What to Do Next
India Post has officially released the GDS 1st Merit List 2026 on 6 March 2026 for 28,636 vacancies. If you applied for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS), Branch Postmaster (BPM) or Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) posts, here is how to check your result and what steps to follow.
How to Check Your India Post GDS Result 2026
Visit indiapostgdsonline.gov.in. Navigate to the Candidate's Corner section. Click on Online Engagement and select Schedule-I, January 2026. Choose your Postal Circle (eg. Tamil Nadu). Click on the 1st Merit List PDF for your circle. Use Ctrl+F to search your Registration Number in the PDF.
Key Details in the Merit List
The merit list contains: Division and Office name, Registration Number, Candidate's Name, Percentage of marks, Category, Document Verification date and remarks. Selection is purely based on Class 10 marks – there was no written exam.
Document Verification (DV) – Last Date: 23 March 2026
Candidates whose names appear in the merit list must complete Document Verification at their allotted Divisional Office on or before 23 March 2026. Documents to carry: Original Class 10 Marksheet, Community Certificate (if applicable), Date of Birth proof, Valid ID Proof, 2 sets of self-attested photocopies.
Expected Cutoff Marks
Based on the released merit list, General category cutoffs range between 90–100% in most circles. OBC cutoffs are between 85–92% and SC/ST cutoffs are between 79–88%. Tamil Nadu circle is highly competitive due to large number of applicants.
2nd Merit List – Expected Last Week of March 2026
If vacancies remain unfilled after DV of the 1st merit list candidates, India Post will release a 2nd Merit List in the last week of March 2026. Keep checking indiapostgdsonline.gov.in regularly.
Salary Details
BPM Salary: Rs.12,000 – Rs.14,500 per month (TRCA). ABPM/Dak Sevak: Rs.10,000 – Rs.12,000 per month.
