The Centre for Sustainable Energy at IIT Madras is a premier research initiative dedicated to developing and deploying technologies to drive India's shift to a low-carbon economy, established in strategic partnership with Coal India Limited. The post is purely on a contract basis, initially for one year and extendable based on performance. The selected candidate will conduct pioneering research including comprehensive assessment of mines for conversion into underground data centres, assessment of goafs for compressed air energy storage (CAES), site evaluation, design specifications, regulatory and safety framework development, and preparation of detailed project reports. Eligibility requires a PhD in Mining Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Civil Engineering, Earth Sciences, Geology/Geotechnical Engineering, or related fields from a reputed institution. Background in mining R&D, geological analysis, modelling tools, and thermal modelling is highly desirable. The pay is Rs. 60,000/- per month plus HRA.
