The week is particularly useful for TNPSC preparation because several developments illustrate how foreign policy, national security and state-level development operate simultaneously.

India's foreign policy: strategic partnerships without abandoning multilateral engagement

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's France visit and India's participation around the G7 Summit highlighted India's approach to engaging with advanced economies even though India is not a G7 member. The visit also formed part of a wider diplomatic itinerary involving France and Slovakia, showing how India is building relationships across different political and economic groupings rather than relying on a single strategic bloc.

For TNPSC aspirants, the important conceptual point is that India's foreign policy increasingly combines bilateral partnerships with participation in wider multilateral platforms. France is important for defence and strategic cooperation, while European engagement also has economic, technological and climate dimensions.

The week also saw India, Assam and Nagaland move towards joint exploration of oil and gas resources. This illustrates how natural-resource governance can involve multiple levels of government and neighbouring states, while also connecting energy security with regional development.

Defence modernisation is moving from procurement towards technology development

DRDO's series of successful tests involving the Ballistic Missile Defence system and the NASM-MR anti-ship missile was among the week's most significant security developments. The importance goes beyond the individual weapons: ballistic missile defence, anti-ship capability and indigenous testing infrastructure collectively strengthen India's ability to protect both land-based strategic assets and maritime interests.

The appointment of Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth as the next Chief of the Army Staff also provided a useful institutional current-affairs point. For TNPSC, such appointments should be linked with the structure of India's armed forces, the role of the Army Chief and the constitutional and administrative framework governing defence services.

Tamil Nadu agriculture faced an immediate seasonal challenge

Tamil Nadu's Kuruvai Special Package, worth ₹134.83 crore, was announced against the background of uncertainty surrounding Mettur Dam water release. This is an excellent example of why Tamil Nadu agricultural policy must be studied through the combined lens of monsoon behaviour, reservoir management, Cauvery water availability and farmer support.

The significance of Kuruvai extends beyond one crop season. The Cauvery delta is closely associated with paddy cultivation, and the timing of water release can affect sowing decisions, input purchases, credit requirements and ultimately farm incomes. TNPSC aspirants should therefore connect this current affair with the geography of the Cauvery delta and Tamil Nadu's irrigation system.

Language, education and administrative reform remained important state-level themes

The Madras High Court notice concerning the sequence involving the National Anthem and Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu brought language, cultural identity and constitutional questions into the current-affairs space. Such issues are relevant to TNPSC because they sit at the intersection of constitutional values, federal relations, public institutions and Tamil Nadu's distinctive linguistic context.

Tamil Nadu's ITI admission-related developments similarly highlighted the state's continuing emphasis on vocational education and skill development. At a time when employment generation is increasingly linked with industry-specific skills, technical education remains an important component of human-capital policy.

The week therefore demonstrated a useful TNPSC pattern: major current affairs often become more meaningful when linked with static subjects. Defence tests connect with India's security architecture, the Kuruvai package with Tamil Nadu geography and agriculture, and the language-related court proceedings with polity and constitutional principles.
