Understanding the TNPSC Group 1 Syllabus is the foundational step for any candidate aspiring to become a Deputy Collector or Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Tamil Nadu. The 2026 syllabus remains comprehensive, testing a candidate’s analytical depth, factual knowledge, and administrative aptitude. The examination is conducted in three tiers: Preliminary, Mains, and the Oral Test.

The Preliminary Examination Syllabus (Objective Type)

The Prelims is a screening test consisting of a single paper with 200 questions (300 marks). The syllabus is strategically divided to give weightage to both national and state-specific topics.

General Studies (175 Questions)

Unit 8 & 9: The Deciding Factors

These units were introduced to ensure officers possess deep knowledge of the state they serve. Unit 8 covers the History, Culture, Heritage, and Socio-Political Movements in Tamil Nadu, including Sangam literature and the Dravidian movement. Unit 9 focuses on Development Administration in Tamil Nadu, social justice, and human development indicators.

Aptitude & Mental Ability (25 Questions)

Based on the SSLC standard, this section includes HCF, LCM, Ratio and Proportion, Simple Interest, Compound Interest, Area, Volume, Time and Work, and Logical Reasoning.

The Main Written Examination Syllabus (Descriptive Type)
